Sapphic Film Collective
Saphlicks
Overview
Saphlicks is a dynamic sapphic film collective based in New York City, designed to foster a supportive and creative community for queer filmmakers. At its core, Saphlicks is dedicated to amplifying the voices and stories of people of color within the sapphic and queer film spaces. The collective creates an inclusive environment where filmmakers can connect, showcase their work, and collaborate in a nurturing and affirming space. Through its bi-monthly events, Saphlicks is building a network of like-minded creators, professionals, and enthusiasts who are passionate about film, diversity, and queer culture.
Approach
Saphlicks envisions a future where sapphic filmmakers, especially those of color, are not only represented in film but are integral to shaping the future of queer media. The collective seeks to build a sustainable and thriving network of filmmakers, creatives, and advocates who are passionate about telling authentic, diverse stories that resonate with the queer community and beyond.
Bi-Monthly Events: Saphlicks hosts two primary events each month: one is a film screening featuring work from sapphic filmmakers, particularly those from marginalized communities; the other is a mixer, which creates opportunities for queer filmmakers, storytellers, and artists to meet, share ideas, and collaborate.
Focus on People of Color: The collective’s programming is rooted in the belief that the voices of people of color in the sapphic and queer film communities are essential and should be celebrated. By prioritizing these voices, Saphlicks seeks to create a platform where underrepresented filmmakers can be seen and heard.
Connection and Community: Through its mixers, Saphlicks aims to create spaces for networking and relationship-building, empowering queer filmmakers of all backgrounds to support each other's creative journeys.
