Nikita has always done things by the book. She graduated college, got a good job in consulting and got married to her long-term boyfriend, Sean. She has everything she’s supposed to want but she doesn’t know if she can say she’s actually happy. She can no longer ignore the nagging feeling that something is wrong when she’s at the wedding of a friend from college and sees a past college lover, Tess. Tess is giving a toast to the couple, and it becomes clear that since graduating, Tess has really come into herself. She is thriving in her acceptance of her own queerness. While Nikita stands next to her husband, she is completely mesmerized by Tess. She knows she needs to talk to her friends, Kristina and Megan, to get some advice about the feelings that are arising. Nikita is flustered, but her friends recall her past with Tess and give her sound advice. She knows the only way she’ll get clarity is if she actually talks to Tess. When Tess finally breaks away from the crowd to make a phone call, Nikita sees it as the perfect opportunity to reconnect.
